ENCOURAGEMENT FOE MR CHAMBERLAIN. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Received 11.16 p.m., Oot. 27. London, Oct. 27. A congress of the National Free Labor Association, representing a membership of half a million, adopted by 24 to 18, a resolution welcoming Mr Chamberlain’s proposals in the beat interests of the workers and calculated to ensure prosperity of the Motherland and Colonies. Mr Markham, a Commoner, although a freetrader, in a letter published in the Times, predicts that, according to the present consumpiion and rato of exports, the thick steam coal seams of Great Britain will bo practically exhausted within the present generation. He adds : “ Coal being capital it ought in the fiscal controversy to bo- treated differently than other exports, inasmuch as- it cannot be replaced.” Ottawa, Oct. 27. Lord Stratbcona, in an interview, said he was convinced that greater freedom in treaty making asked by Sir Wilfrid Laurier, should not bo used in any way detrimental to the Empire's best iat-oresto. Canada, besides consulting, would act in conjunction with the Motherland.
Berlin, Oct. 27. The Kolouscbo Eeiiung declares there are many signs of the ultimate success of Mr Chamberlain’s policy.
