At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, a b.aker pleaded guilty, to adulterating bread with alum, and was fined i£2 and costs. In the case of another baker similarly, charged, the point .was raised that .under section 28 of the Adulteration Prevention Act the information should, have, been laid 73 hours after the offence.; As the information was not laid for twelve days after the offence, the case was dismissed. The Magistrate jilso revoked his decision in the other case, and remitted the fine, the circumstances being the same.Mr Wray, S.M., cancelled the certificate of Patrick Frances Smyth an old age pensioner, on the ground that he had hot been leading a sober and reputable life for the last five years, he having been thrice convicted of drunkenness at Timaru in June last ‘ DUNEDIN, last night, The Otago Rowing Association considered objection from the North re the date of the championship regatta A final decision will be known next Tuesday night, . At the Police Court, Henry Powell (licensee of the Wallacetown Hotel) Wat fined £G, • including costs, and two endorsements recorded on the license, for Sunday trading 'and permitting drunkenness on the premises There were twelve informations in all, eleven being for selling drink to different persons. Defendant pleaded guilty, and the other informations were withdrawn. The Magistrate remarked that the case showed the necessity for making it punishable for persons to be on licensed premises during prohibited hours.-
