HOUSE OF. REPRESENTATIVES, Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, last night. The House met at 2.30.

Questions were answered and a couple of hours spent in discussing the replies thereto.

Mr Seddon moved the second reading of the Midland Railway Petitions Settlement Act Amendment Bill, which fixes the interest on Government stock payable to the receiver of tho Company at 4 per cent., instead of 3;}. The seoond reading was agreed to on the voices. The House resumed at 7.30. Mr Hall-Jones moved the second reading of the Wine Adulteration Bill, to prevent adulteration of wine. Several members protested against time being wasted over Bills of this kind at the end of the session, and an amendment by Mr McLachlan that tho Bill be read a second time six months hence was carried by 36 to 27. The Bill was thus killed. The Fisheries Encouragement Bill was read a second time on the voices.
