CRICKET.
POVERTY BAY CRICKET ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the above Association was held in the Masonic Hotel on Saturday evening, thoro being present the following delegates : Messrs W. Gibson (in the chair; H. E. Dodd (treasurer), E. F. Iveson (secretary), H. E. Hill (United), H. Ferris and P. Sheridan (Union), and J. Gibson and Ensor (Common, Shelton, and Co.). It was decided to start the Thursday competition, for which threo clubs had entered—viz., Union, Common Shelton and Co., and United—on Thursday, Nov. sth, and the draw for the first round of fixtures resulted as follows :
Nov. 5. -United v. C.S. & Co'. Nov. 12. United v. Union Nov. 19.—0.5. & Go. v. Union
Messrs H. E. Hill, Ensor, and P. Sheridan were appointed a committee to endeavor to arrange for a trophy for competition by the olubs. Messrs Tattersall, Iveson, and W. A, J. Gibson, were deputed to interview the Poverty Bay Rugby Union in regard to securing the Victorian Domain as a playing ground for the clubs for the season.
It was mentioned that clubs had been formed at WaoreDga-a-hika and at Te Karaka, and the secretary was instructed to write inviting them to enter for the various competitions.
The balance-sheet was presented for the past season, and showed the receipts to nave been £l9 13s 6d, and the expenditure £l9 Os lOd, leaving a credit balance of 12s Bd. The assets were £4 7s, and the liabilities £8 Is 6d. The Association’s affiliation fee to.tho Hawke’s Bay Association (£2 2s) had been paid by Mr VV. Gibson. The Chairman was deputed to endeavor to arrange a match for Nov. 9th (King’s Birthday;, on which date the Union Club play the newly-formed To Karaka Club on the latter’s ground.
