Sweet Nell, who won the Caulfield Cup on Saturday, was only twice unplaced in tho races she contested at two years old. The Haut Brion filly won five of her engagements. The victory gained by Sweet Nell in the Caulfied Guineas on last Saturday week shows very clearly that the daughter of Haut Brion has gone on the right way since she had her wings clipped at Randwick last month respectively by Belah and Duke of Grafton (says Pbieton in the Auckland Herald). From the fact of Sweet Nell having started favorite for her race on Saturday last we may, I should say, safely conclude that Sir Ruport Clarke was quite prepared to see her turn the tables on Belah, who vanquished her in the A.J.C. Derby last month. Sweet Nell ran very true last season, and it may be left to her to be the bright particular star amongst the three-year-olds this season. It may be remarkod that Sweet Nell’s victory in the Caulfield Guineas is the firßt occasion on which a filly has triumphed in that race since Volley won in the spring of 1888.
