TENNIS.

OPENING OE THE SEASON*

The Gisborne Lawn Tennis Club held their opening day, for the present season on their courts last Saturday, and had a most successful day. Though the wind and dust were both pretty bad in town, the prettily situated tennis grounds were entirely sheltered, and a large throng ol visitors wended their way over to the courts. The Club now have courts to play on that any club in the colony might ho proud of —a fact largely due to the care and attention bestowed during the past winter by, Mr Winchcombe, the Club caretaker. All old members reckon they have never seen the courts/ iim. better order, Tind fcvery court was kept going until dark. The lady, members of the Club (under a management committee of Mesdames Barlow and Seymour, and Misses W. Adair, Adams, R. and C. Boylan, and McCredie) provided, very refreshing afternoon-tea, which was greatly appreciated by the large number of visitors. The President .(Mr G. Grant) and all the officers of the .Club were untiring in their efforts to promote the enjoyment of the visitors ; and a taken as a whole, the opiening of tho Tennis Club for 1903 may bq regarded as the most successful, fashionable, and enjoyable that has ever bee® held in tho Club’s existence.
