OPENING OF THE SEASON.

Tho opening of the Thursday cricket season took placo in tho Victoria Domain yesterday afternoon, there being a large attoridanco of members and visitors. A match was played between sides selected by th 6 Captain and Vice-Captain, and the game rosulted in a victory for the former by 77 ruDB to 21. For the winners Laing showed good form, and the 35 runs compiled by him was tho result of careful cricket, Rowland made a good stand, and played with good judgment for the 11 runs which he obtained, whilst Lewis also showed good form. Tho collapse of the Vice-Captain’s team was chiefly due to the bowling of Sheridan, who was dead on tho wicket.
