In the Assembly, Mr Davies was elected Speaker. The Council recommitted the Income Tax Bill, thus ending the deadlock, and adjourned until to-day with a view to a conference with the Assembly. Perth, Sept. 30. A Chinaman has died of plague at Tighgate Hill, a suburb of the city. Sydney, Sept. 30. 1 The Oimara’s men knocked up, and camped at a farmhouse for the night. Twelve inches of rain fell at Dungog in eight hours. A phenomenal hailstorm occurred at Lawson, the hail being a foot deep. The Assembly passed three months’ supply, amounting to £1,665,000. Major Roth, Commonwealth representative at the New Caledonia jubilee celebrations, has returned. He says thb French colonists are anxious to encourage with Australia the same friendly relations that exist between France and England. The trade with Australia is capable of much expansion.
The Presbyterian General Assembly authorised union with the Methodist and Congiegational Churches.
Brisbane, Sept. 30. The Assembly passed a Bill reenacting the present stamp duties.
