SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING.

(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. Profossor Scott, in presenting the estimates of the School of Engineering to tha Canterbury College Board of Governors today, recommends an increased grant of £750 to maintain progress. He remarked that this amount was for work whioh was national rather than provincial, as 40 per cent, of the matriculated students came from districts outside of Canterbury, such as Auckland, Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, Wellington, Nelson, Westland, Otago, and Southland. He considered the school deserved the annual Government subsidy the same as the Otago School of Mines, and was confident that the Minister of Education would make a grant. The Professor’s scheme of increasing the efficiency of the school, including the appointment of a demonstrator in electricity at £3OO a year, was approved by the Board..
