RAILWAY DEPARTMENT.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night. Several members of Parliament waited on the Minister of Railways this evening with regard to certain departmental regutions. They put forward two objections, firstly, against the regulation which provides for members of the mechanical staff on holiday leave travelling second-class carriage instead of first-class, and secondly, against compensation for accident and sickness being paid in accordance with the scale of the Workers’ Compensation Act, instead of each case being as before considered on its merits. The Minister said the staff was far too large to permit everybody to travel in first-class cars, and in regard to compensation payments it was absolutely necessary to have some uniform system.
