The Victorian Miners’ Executive refused to support the proposed strike of Mount Lyell miners. The dispute has therefore practically ended.
Adolaide, Sept. 28. Colonel Peart, chief secretary of the Salvation Army, has arrived. He states that General Booth will visit Australia via New Zealand early next Ca ' Sydney, Sept. 28.
Speaking at the laying of the foundation stone of the new Bedfern railway station, the Chief Railway Commissioner warned the _ Government against loading the capital of the railways beyond the power. To put the railways in a position that they were unable to pay would disturb the minds of English capitalists, to whom they had to look for money. Professor Parkin says that there is no place in the world where he found more keen and intelligent interest shown in the Bhodes’ scholarships than in New Zealand. The R.M.S. Moana arrived at Honolulu from Vancouver on Saturday. Miss Ada Crossley’s ankle is progressing satisfactorily. Her second concert wa3 a splendid success.
