A Times article, explaining the weakness of investment securities, refers to the realisation of throe large estates of people who had died, bringing three-quarters of a million of consols into the market. It adds that, owing to the large amount of colonial municipal stocks held by big syndicates borrowed money at every rail necessitates fresh realisations to provide further cover. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s report for the year shows a profit of £54,742. After paying a dividend of five per cent, the sum of £10,570 will be carried forward. Paris, Sept. 25. W. Wright, a loading steeplechase jockey in Franco, was killed by an accident at Santoren races. Ottawa, Sept. 27. Lord Strathcona, interviewed, declared that ho was in entire accord with Mr Chamberlain’s views. The change would greatly benefit tho Empire generally. Canadians admired Mr Chamberlain’s action in resigning.
