CYCLING NOTES.

[By '• Hub.”] The newly-formed Cycle and Athletic Club evidently means business, and the energetic committee they have elected have arrangements well in hand for the formal opening of the season, which will be celebrated on Cook Day by a monster run to Kaiteratahi. No more enjoyable outing could be desired than a well-con-ducted cycle run, on good roads, and in good company. The roads just now arc at their best, and the other essential mentioned will be provided by the Club. A number of ladies have already become members, and will be out in force on the * opening day. I understand that negotiations are in progress for the use of Victoria Domain for cycle and athletic gatherings. ->* more suitable ground could be wi3fsed ' r< Very little outlay would bo required to : “y down a grass truck, which would favorably with anything of the kind in the colony, and its Equation would attract far more spectators 1 than a ground further from town. The Domain is an ideal sports’ ground, and if the Rugby Union can see their way to allowing the necessary permission, the efforts of both bodies should result inja very great improvement to Gisborne’s only sports grounds. I see by various paper reports that the “ walking craze ” has taken a strong hold in various parts of the colony j why not in Gisborne? By-fche bye, as we have a World’s record-holder (Mr F. H. Creamer) in this branch of sport living in our town we should be able to put up times here that would take a lot of boating. This is hardly apropos of cycling, but as our new Club is also an athletio club and has amongst its members so many enthusiastic I “peds ” perhaps a hint might be taken.
