Per Press Association. Wellington, last night. A fire broke out in the Terrace Gaol at an early hour this morning in the bathroom of the women’s ward, but it was suppressed by tho gaol brigade before much damage was done; The prisoners were removed from their colls, and their safety seen to. The outbreak is supposed to be due to defective electric wiring. In the Supreme Court sentences were passed as follows : Edward Randle, breaking and entering, 18 months’ imprisonment ; Arthur Court, forged telegram, 12 months; Harold Bay, false pretenoes, two years. John Frederick Jones (false pretences) and William Daniels (attempted breaking and entering) were remanded, as further charges are pending.
