PARLIAMENTARY.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. THE RABBIT ACT AMENDMENT. Per Press Association, WELLINGTON, last night. Tho debate on Sir W. Russell’s Rabbit Act, 1881, Amendment Bill was continued at great length, after the Telegraph Office was closed last night. A good deal of hostility was displayed towards the Bill, owing to the drastic nature of clause 5, and at midnight Sir W. J. Steward moved that tho Chairman leave the chair, with the object of Killing the Bill. This was lost by 24 to 18, and eventually it was agreed to report progress on the Bill. The House rose at 1.15 a.m. The House met at 2.30. Nearly the whole afternoon was occupied in answering questions. The House met at 7.30. STATE FIRE INSURANCE.
Tho State Fire Insurance Bill was com' emitted. Lengthy discussion took place on clause 3, which provides for the establishment of a State Fire Insurance Office. The discussion was on similar lines to the second reading debate. Mr Seddon said that the money necessary for establishing the Department would not be obtained until Government were ready *o do so. Clause 3 was still under review when the telegraph office closed. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. The Council met at 2.30. The Counties Act Amendment Bill passed the final stages. The Dairy Industry Amendment Bill and Wireless Telegraphy Bill wore read the second time.
