A meeting of the Australasian Federation League opposed a movement in, Victoria to secure an- amb endmenfc of the constitution, with a view to fixing the Federal capital in Sydney or Melbourne. Sir E. Barton, in a speech l , urged the Cit sens’ Federation to. stick to the original bargain, to have the capital in New South Wales. They must fight for the rights they had obtained. The cost of the ‘capital liad been exaggerated. Certain necessary Government buildings only, would he required, and the cost .would not exceed half a million.
