DUNEDIN NEWS.

Per Press Association. •j Dunedin, last night.

A movement is on foot among both employers and employees to induce Government to appoint an officer to see that Arbitration Court awards are complied with. The Plumbers’, Bootmakers’, and Tailoressos’ Unions and employers are said to be favorable'. It is believed that if a competent man with a knowledge of trade conditions were employod to interpret an award with fairness to both sides friotion would bo avoided. The Hospital Board discussed the system of contributions to hospital and charitable aid. Mr T. Mackenzie thought the tax was not fair, as it was paid only by those who had real estate. A man might be wealthy in property, but he was not liable to the tax. A resolution was passed that in any readjustment of the levy for raising money now derived from local bodies the assessment should be placed on all forms of property, and not confine# to real estate as at present.
