'AROUND THE WORLD IN A CANOE.

Per Press Association, AUCKLAND, last night. Captain Voss, the intrepid, roundthe world navigator, sailed with his mate in the Indian war canoe Tiiikum, from Auckland, this afternoon, for England, via Torres Straits, Durban, and the Cape. Several hundred people watched the departure of the Ferry Company’s steamer Eagle, which lowed the little three-masted craft down the harbor.

The wind was hot very favorable to getting away, but Captain Voss intended standing out to sea without delay. i

Csptain Voss, of the Tilikum, has decided to go to sea definitely, Wow high or low, to-morrow afternoon (says • the Auckland Star of Tuesday), and he has made arrangements with the Ferry Company to put on a service of steamers which will at company the craft for ten miles up the gulf. Captain Voss explains that he was not able to put to sea last Sunday because everything was against him—ho bad *un accident with his craft when moving her along Queen street ; then it rained hard all day Saturday at St. Kelier’s, and he could not finish bis fitting of the tjoat and when lie got out to the heads he found the easterly wind too much for him. He says that had he beeii ready ‘ for sea he would have gone on, but he had not had titme to do as much as would be required to properly fight such a sea, and he therefore put hack intoiport.
