The Government aro strongly protesting against the ratification of tho Eastern Extension agreement. After communicating with the Premiers of Canada, New Zealand, and Victoria, Mr Philp asked the State Governor to communicate with Mr Chamberlain, requesting that a special conference bo held before anything further is done by the Federal Government. A reply has been received from Canada stating that Sir Wilfrid Laurier has cabled Mr Chamberlain and Sir E. Barton making a protest. Mr Seddon also replied, strongly urging objection to ratification of the agreement, and hoping the matter may stand over until at all events a conference of the partners to the Faoifio Cable was held.
