HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Per Press Association,, WELLINGTON, last night. The House met at 2.30. MAHUTA’S APPOINTMENT. , The Native Affairs Committee reported that it had no recommendation to make on the petition of South Island Maoris against the gazetting of Mahuta as King. The debate lasted tho whole afternoon, several members strongly protesting against Mahuta’s appointment to the Executive.
Mr Carroll said that Mahuta was desirous of seeing good come about in his district, and he wanted to be a useful servant of the State.
