A CHANGE OF CONSTITUTION.

Suva, Aug. 14.
A petition for a change of constitution, forwarded to tho King in April, has been laid before His Majesty, who in reply statos that His Majesty will be pleased to receive it very graciously, the necessary instrument being propared to give effect -fco the principle that unofficial members of the Legislative Council should in general be elected, and that the number of such members should for the present be eightj as follows; Two for Suva, one for Levuka, two for the planters, one for the augur oomp&nieS) two for tte natives. . When the new royal warrant is reeeived, the questions of qualification, suffrage, election, and term of office will be submitted to the Legislative Council for discussion and necessary legislation. The president of the Council in future will not in future havo a deliberative but will have a easting vote. The number of official members will bo increased.
