There was fine weather, and a large attendance to witness the match New Zealand versus the Northern districts. The match was excellent as practice for the visitors, but the Northern team was weak. The spectators were treated to a runaway game. Tyler got away from the line-out and scored first blood, Wallace converting. Kiernan, who was particularly smart in getting the ball throughout the game, passed to Wood ; thence it went to Stead and R. McGregor, the latter scoring; and Wallace again convert-

ing. New Zealand, 10 ; Northern Districts, 0. Wood, who was feeling the effects of an old injury, was not playing well. .The local men failed to stop the persistent rushes of the visitors. A fine passing rush by Wood, McGregor, Stalker, and Kiernan resulted; in the last-named crossing the line. Wallace took the kick, hut failed to increase the score—l 3 to 0.

Almost immediately, Nicholson! got possession, and passed to McGregor, who handed it to Wood, who in turn gave it to Asher, who scored, but Wallace failed at goal.

Sixteen to nil. Just before half-time Nicholson! scored an easy try, and Wallace raised the visitors’ total to 21. :

McGregor, and Kiernan obtained tries in quick succession. In every instance Wallace failed at goal. When the whistle sounded no-side, the New Zeaianders were victorious by, fifty-three points to. nil.
