I Dcteetivo Kennedy effected a clever capI turo at midnight on Saturday. He ac--1 costed a auspicious character in front of the premises of Buchanan and Company, wholesale jewellers. Tho man evidently I recognising the detectivo, presented a reI volvor at the officer’s hoad. The dotective drew his own revolver, whereupon the I man, retreating, called, “If you come near me I’ll shoot.” The detective con- I I tinued to approach, however, till the situation was extremely critical, when the deI tectivo heard a noise behind him and I
looked to ascertain the causo, whoreupon the man with the revolver bolted. The noise was caused by a second naan in Buchanan’s doorway. He also bolted. The detective chased and collared this man, who, with a revolver at his head, offered but little resistance. Ho was lodgod in the lock-up. He had in his pos- | session tools used by burglars. He gave the name of Geo. Harrison, aged 81. bubsequently the detective foundinßucbanan
and Co.’b doorway a crowbar. Thore were l marks of a crowbar on the door. The lock , was partly smashed, but an entrance had not been effected. Later. —George Harrison, arrested by I Detective Kennedy on Saturday night, was I brought bofore tllb Stipendiary Magistrate to-day and remanded for a week. No I evidence was taken.
