LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Per Press WELLINGTON, last night. In the Council a start was made with the debate on the Address-inßeply, the speakers being the Hon. T. K. Macdonald, Hon. Thorne George, Hon. Baillio, and Hon. Trask.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

The House met at 2.80. Mr Miller was elected Chairman ol Committee by',64 votes to 2.

The usual sessional committees were set up. The House rosumed at 7.30.

The debate on the Address-in Reply was continued throughout the evening, th speakers beiDg Messrs E. M. Smith, Duthie, McNab, and O'Meara. The debate was again adjourned, aud the House rose before midnight.
