MESSAGE FROM SEA.
RELIC OF ELINGAMITE WRECK,
By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, last night. The Mannwatu Times reports that quite recently one of the Messrs Symes, of Waverley, picked up a bottle on the Waverley beach, containing a message from Mis= McGuirk, the bravo stewardess of the Elingamite, whose death from exposure and starvation was so .universally mourned. The message is a simple intimation that tbe vessel had struck on Three Kings, and that those on hoard had taken to the boats. It was contained in a bottle which had originally held some kind of paste, and was evidently taken from the ship's pantry. The bottle was sea-wort), and gave indications of having been washed about for a considerable time. The interesting relic is being sent to the relatives of the late Miss McGuirk, who will no dcubt prize it highly as evidence of the devotion to duty and dauntless courage with which she braved the appalling ordeal imminent on the shipwreck.
