HAYGARTH’S COMEDY COMPANY.
“THE PRIVATE SECRETARY.”
Another large audience greeted the Haygarth Comedy Company at the Theatre Royal last evening, when the ever popular play “ The Private Secretary ” was produced. In the character of the Rev. Robt. Spalding Mr E. D. Haygarth scored a great success. Ho was eminently suited to the part, making the most of every opportunity. Mr Chas. Waud appeared as Squire Marsland, and Mr George Gardiner as Mr Cattermole, both parts being taken in a most creditable manner. Mr J Lyndon had a happy part as Douglas Cattermole, and Y> Ton Stent gave a first-class pourtrayal of Harry Marsland, as also did Mr Kensington of the character of Mr Gibson. Miss F. Kehoe Dempßey as Miss Ashford won fresh laurels for her clever acting. Mies Ella Lang made a great success of the part of Mrs Stead, and was frequently applauded for her efforts. Miss Ruby Armstrong as Edith Marsland, and Miss Polly Haygarth as Eva Leßter were also most successful. As on the opening evening, the success of the comedy was much enhanced by the strong orchestra under the conductorship of Mr J. H. Gittos. The orchestra included Messrs Gittos (piano), Massey (violin), A. Adair (’cello) and L. Sheriff (cornet), and the selections rendered during the evening were much appreciated, To-night “ Our Boys ” will be staged, and should attract a large audience.
