ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
AN EXPLOSION,
SUDDEN DEATH,
13 v Telegraph—Press Association, Westport, last night. Throe mon named Allan, Hay, and Walford, working on a now rope road at Denniston, had a miraculous oscape from death yesterday. They had charged a kolo with 13cwt of golignito, and were tamping it when the charge exploded. Allan was cut and bruised about the face, and had a fingor smashed, which later had to bo amputated. Hay escaped with a severe -shock. Walford was quite unharmed. l'ho cause of the explosion is attributed to the gelignite being frozen. Miss Potter, of Ueefton, whilst on a visit to Grauity to attend a wedding, took 9 fit of coughing last night, and broke a blood vessel and died. Wanganui, last night. The body of a woman aged about 50 years was iound yesterday on tho Waitotara beach. The body has not yot been beon recognisod. An accident occurred to-day by which a. four-year-old boy uamod Patrick Brownlie was killed. The little fellow, with bis Bister, aged two, was swinging from the back of a spring trap, when tho trap tipped ind foil on tho boy's chest, killing him instantaneously. Christchurch, last night.
A child named Charles Woodham, 18 months old, choked itsolf yesterday with a picco of bread. At- tho inquest to-day the jury returned a verdict of accidental death.
