SOUTH AFRICAN TRADE.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, last night
The Government commercial agent at Capetown, writing to the Department of Industries and Commerce, states that the Railway Department of Cape Colony has sent an order to New Zealand for a trial shipment of timber. He is hopeful of a large trade being done. lie states that there is a good demand at Capetown for New Zealand poultry, which has a high reputation for excellence. This trade, with proper attention, could be made, to assume large proportions. He states that New Zealand butter has secured the reputation of being the best on the market At one time it was impossible to persuade merchants to take butter from this colony. All this has now been altered. Argentine has, however, secured the bulk of the orders. The ruling price for Argentine butter is 10gd per lb, e.i.f., and the quality gives satisfaction.
