LATE COAST NEWS.

Mr A. T. Ngata left for Wellington last evening, where he will frame his reports on the Maori Councils for the forthcoming Parliamentary session. Mr Ngata has just completed his tour amongst the Natives to the North of Auckland, and states that the work which lias been done since the inauguration of the Council has been very satisfactory. Mr Ngata states that Mr Pope, Inspector of the Native Department of Education, after his tour through the different Maori districts, is well satisfied with tho work of the Council in sending Native children to school. The work done has been so satisfactory that Mr Pope has recommended that more Native schools be built. Mr Ngata returns from Wellington in the course of a few weeks, when he will pay a visit to the Coast, and also to hold a meeting of the Waiapu Maori Council, of which ho is chairman.

His Lordship the Bishop of Waiapu left for Napier last evening.

The Hon. Jas. Carroll left for Wellington by the s.s. Mararoa last evening. On Saturday the first football matches for the Rev. Mr Fitzgerald’s Cup,, will be played under the auspices of the Waiapu Rugby Union. Tuparoa meets Tolago Bay at Tokomaru Bay, and Tokomaru will meet Waipiro at Mr Williams’ Takapau statiou. Keen interest is being taken in football on the Coast this year, and the matches to be played on Saturday should be exciting.
