CASH COUPONS.

Dunedin, last; night,
At a meeting of tho Retailers’ Brunch of the Employers Association strong disapprobation was expressed at tho method adopted by some traders in issuing coupons in such a manner as to enablo purchasers to obtain £1 worth of goods for nothing, as this system is open to many abuses and detrimental to fair trading. Those who get goods for nothing under the system do so at tho expense of their friends, to whom the tickets aro sold. Tho secretary was instructed to write to the Premier giving full particulars of the system, and to request him to amend tho Trading Stamp Act to prevent s'ueh a system of trading.
EMPIRE DAY
It was decided not to observe Empire Day as a holiday', but to keep the Prince of Wales’ Birthday in future.

Tho directors of tho Union Steamship Company havo declared a dividend of fc> per cent, for the half-year.
