Grand and Jones have been sentenced to death for the murder of Constable Long. The .jury added a recommendation to mercy on the ground that, there was no evidence as to who tired the shot. When asked if he had anything to say, Grand said :“ 1 have to tell Your Honor to your face that, you have conducted the ease more like a Crown Prosecutor than a Judge.’’ Then, naming a certain Judge, he continued : “ Where did he die V—away from friends and relations, where 1 hope you will. 1 will meet you before God. Then you will see whether I am innocent or guilty.” • Jones told the Judge that lie. was prejudiced from the lirst.
