and It. 1). B. Robinson (Town Clerk) Apologies were received from Crs Johnston and Miller and ex-Council-
lors Kennedy and .Mason, who regretled they were unable to he present. After justice had been done to a splend-id spread, the following toastlist, was duly honored “Jlis Majesty,” proposed by the Mayor ; 11 Prosperity and Progress of the District,” proposed by the Mayor an I responded to by Messrs Whinray and Bright. “ The New Councillors,”- responded “'J ho Until ing Councillors,” resIn by Crs Somervell and Morrison, ponded to by Mr Bright ami Cr Lysnar (on behalf of the absent gentlemen).
“ Thu Ladies,” responded to by Crs 1 larding and .Jones. “ His Worship and the Mayoress,” proposed by Mr Bright, and responded In by the Mayor. “ Press,” responded to by Messrs Gibson (Times) and Berry (Herald). “The Officers of f tie Council,” proposed by Cr Jones, and responded to by tho Town Clerk. Some excellent speeches wero made, dealing with Gisborne past, present, and future, and ail of a hopeful and inspiriting nature.
