(Per Press Association.) NELSON, last night

A fire at eight o'clock last night destroyed an dght-roomed, two-stor-ied house in Cambridge street, Richmond. owned by Mr Capper, and occupied until a month or so ago by nis brother and family, now out of the district. Though it had been raining heavily all day a dark smoke arose from the interior of the building, which was gutted, and the furniture burned. The origin of the fire is a mystery. Two men among tho early arrivals heard a rustle, as if a person were moving, but a shower from a tree put out the match, and notiiing could be seen. Otiier observers attribute the fire to rats^,
