Sill JOSEPH WARD, (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, last night. Sir Joseph Ward left for Lyttelton this evening, cn route, to Dunedin. LATE MR TRAVERS.
The inquest on the body of the •late Mr Travers was held this afternoon. 'Pile jury returned a verdict, of accidental death. The evidence showed that after the train had moved about forty yards from the station, and was travelling at tlie rale of six oi seven miles an hour, deceased sprang off the platform of one of the cars, after a slight struggle with a hoy who tried to prevent him doing so. Deceased jumped right on to the guard, who was looking in the opposite direction, and fell hack against, the cars. The step of ‘one of (lie carriages dragged him about ten yards. Death actually resulted from hemorrhage on the brain, caused by injury to the skull.
THE LEGAL PROFESSION. Correspondence recently took place between Hie New Zealand Government, in regard to the admission to practice of New Zealand barristers and solicitors in England. The Pre--Ihat Mr Chamberlain had laid before the Incorporated Law Society I lie suggest ion of the New Zealand Law Society that in view of the fact that services under articles is not compulsory in New Zealand, flic requirements would lie met if the candidates for admission to the English bar were required to produce a certificate from a Judge of the Supreme Court, that any candidate, before commencing practice in New Zealand, had been engaged exclusively in acquiring practical knowledge of law for a period of nof less (ban three years under a practising barrister.
