The Young Women’s Christian Associa

'don’s new building was opened this afternoon by His Excellency the Governor, who spoke of the good work done by such associations.

The St. John’s Ambulance Association medallions and certificates were presented this evening at the Garrison Hail by Lord Ranfurly, who spoke at some length on tlie work of St. John’s Association. The number in the centre who gained certifi. cates last year was : First aid, SI men and 43 women; nursing, 21 women. The number who gained medallions was 11 women and IS men.

At a meeting this evening it was decided to form a Protestant Defence Association, somewhat on the linc-s of those founded by the P.ev. Dill Mackay in New South Wales. A committee was appointed to draw up a constitution and rules.
