During the last forty-eight hours the rain fail in the city has been almost continuous. It is still raining heavily. The Premier has been advised that the Waikato Land Council, now sitting at Huntly, has received an application from King Mahuta to deal with block of 10,000 acres near Raglan. A fireman from the steamer Whangape was fined L2O this morning, with an alternative of six months’ imprisonment, for bringing ashore from his vessel nine tins oi opium, which is prohibited from importation. He attempted to soil the opium, valued at over £3O, to a Chinaman,
