TOLAGO BAY V. GISBORNE. The Tolago Bay cricketers commenced the soeond and final match of their Poverty Bay tour yesterday, when thoy met the Gisborno roprosontatives on Victoria Domain. The game startod at 10 a.m. in perfect weather. Tolago Bay won tho toss, and batted, totalling 108. G. Jolly was top scorer with a freely hit 34, which was marred by three easy chances. J. Reeves (26) and G. Small (20) batted soundly. E. Lewis and Hawkins came out with the best bowling figures, but nono of tho Gisborne bowlers seemed able to find a length. The holding of tho local mon was very poor, several oasy catches being dropped. On Gisborne going to the wickets they gave a feeble display against the bowling of Hale, W. Reeves, and Small, the total only reaching 45. Gisborne followed on. Hodge and Dodd, oponing, put up a scoro of 33 for tho first wicket, when Dodd was bowled by W. Reeves. J. Gibson joined Hodge, and another fino stand was made, the score being taken to 79, before Gibson was caught in the slips after scoring 23. Gisborne now forced the pace. W. Gibson quickly bit up 14, and Hodge and F. Sharp continued the run-getting at a brisk pace until close on 4.30, when W. Gibson, tho local captain, declared the innings closed, with the total at 132 for throe wickets, Hodge being not-out 02, and Sharp, not-out, 17. Hodge gave a fine display, and made his runs against steady bowling. Requiring 70 to win, Tolago commenced their Becond innings, but were unequal to the task, and collapsed in tho identical manner in which their opponents had done in their first innings. The innings closed for 48, leaving Gisborne victorious on the call of time by 21 runs. Plimmer was unplayable, and capturod six wickets for 0 runs. It was one of the most remarkable games ever played hero, and was full of interest throughout, the excitement at the close being very marked. There was a large number of spectators present. Messrs W. Andrews and J. Rigby were the umpires. The local players entertained the visitors at luncheon at the Record Reign Hotel, where Mr and Mrs Woollright treated the players most hospitably.
