SHOOTING
EAST COAST MOUNTED RIFLES v AHURIRI MOUNTED RIFLES.
At tho Wainui Rango on Saturday a shooting competition was held between the East Coast and Ahuriri Mounted Rifles, resuling in a win for the local men by 68 points. Tho woather was bright and calm, and was a first-class day for marksmen. In tho 300 yards rango Trooper Skeot made top «coro for tho homo team with 27 pointß, while Lieut. Tombleson was sedond with 23 points. For the visitors Troopors Howoll and Smith did best work with 20 points each, whilst Sorgt. Peacock was noxt with 19 points. Sergt. Hamilton gave a display of shooting at the 500 yards range, scoring 30 points, and Sergt. Fairiio was closo up with 29 points ; whilst I Troopor Smith and Sergt. Peacock scored 29 and 20 points rospcctivoly for tho Ahuriri men. For the East Coast Troopor I Skeet again camo to tho front in tho 600 yards rango, scoring 27 points. Trooper Ferguson also did usoful work for the homo team with 25 points. Sergt. Peacock scored 25 points and Troopor Smith gained 24 points for tho visitors. 531 E-C.' MOUNTED" BIFLES V. HUBUMUA BIFLES. Tho above match resulted in a win for tho former by 36 points. The teams fired on their own ranges. In connection with tho shooting of tho local corps three handicap prizes wero given, and resulted as follows: Sergt. Fairlie, 79 points, 1; Trooper Skeet, 78 points, 2; Trooper Forguson, 74 points, 3. The thanks of tho corps aro due to Messrs Tanner Bros, and Primroso and Leslie, who donated prizes. HANDICAP MATCH. At the Wainui range yesterday a shooting match was hold by the members of tho East Coast Mounted Bifles. Some excellent shooting was done. The I event *,was won by Lieutenant Tombleson, but he declined to take tho money prize on account of being an officer, and it was awarded to Trooper Gray, Corporal Hall being placed second, and Trooper Ferguson third. Lieut. Toinbleson gave a good exhibition of shooting at the 500yds range, scoring 33 points out of a possible 35. Hdp 300 500 Tl* Lt. Tombloson ... scr 27 33 60 Tpr. The ten best scorers in the Handicap Match were selected to firo for the Mafeking Cup, the additional range being the 700° yards, tho aggregate scores at the three ranges to count. Lieut. Xombleson was again victorious with 78 points, 18 points being added at tho longer range. Troopor Grey added 29, and came second for tho Cup, and Sergt. Fairlie adding 2o szas third. The best shots at the long range wojro Troopers Grey and Skeet with 29 points eacbj Sergt. Hamilton 27 points, and Sergt. Fairlie and Carpi. Pirie with 25 each. -
