CRICKET.

ENGLISHMEN V. SOUTH AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright I Received 12.56 a.m., March 28. 3 I Adelaide, March 27. t Warner won tho toss and the English- > men batted. The weather was fine and ) the wicket perfect. Tho scoring was slow at the start. Bnrnup, when he had scored - 50, hit one hard to Giffen, but the veteran dropped it. Ho knocked up a century in an hour and three-quarters. Warner was dismissed just after Burnup had scored 50. One wicket for 106. Burnup brightened up considerably after Warner’s departure and gave a good all round display. Tho second wicket fell at 170. Taylor and Fane partnered. Play again became quiet, but after luncheon they scored freely. Fane, who compiled his score with excellent cricket, was snapped up at the wickets. Three for 255. Taylor played a magnificent, chanceless innings. Four for 341. Dowson, like his predecessors, thoroughly appreciated the local bowlers, and I dealt unmercifully with them. When stumps were drawn the score stood at 3bo for the 1 038 of four wickets. The scores were:— Englishmen— lst Innings. Warner, b Giffen 47 Burnup, c and b Giffen ... --- 103 Fane, c Newland, b Travers 47 Taylor, e and b Claxton 105 Dowson, not out ••• ••• Bosanquet, not out ... ••• Extras 0
