THE WAIHI FIRE

PROPERTY SAID TO BE OVER' INSURED.

[(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night,

At Waihi an inquiry into the late firo in the main street was held, and after two days and a wbolo night’s sitting it was concluded to-day, tho verdict being as follows: " The fire occurred in W. L. Ross’ billiard-room, but the origin of tho fire was not disclosed in the evidence, though the matter is surrounded by very suspicious circumstances.” The jury further found that the property was overinsured, the owner’s valuation of tho property being excessive and the owners’ interests in York House was not so great as the amount insured. They also feel sympathy for Mr Pearce in his loss, and consider his interests in the building had not been properly considered by the owners, and would recommend that further inquiries be made by the police.
