WAIAPU JOCKEY CLUB.

FIRST MEETING AT MANGAHANEA

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

On Saturday, March 7tb, the Waiapu Racing Club held their annual meeting at Mangahauea, near Tuparoa, and considering tho inclemoncy of the weather there was a largo attendance of people from far and near. Great credit is due to the officials for tho excellent arrangements, and to tho handicapper, whose work resulted in some close finishes and really good racing. The jockoys on Malcolm and Tynedalc came in for a great deal of praise for the excellent manner which they got their respective mounts to tho winning post. Considering tho racecourse is quite new, it is a remarkably good one, and plainly shows what can bo done. In a very short while it will undoubtedly bB one of the best racecourses in New Zealand, second to none, and we hope to see the other racing clubs in the vicinity of Waipiro in the near future amalgamate, thus adding a groator interest for all of one of the finest of sports. The following are the results :

Maiden Plato.—D. Duff’s Tynedale, 1; Hone Pirata’s Waiparo 2.

Waiapu Cup.—W. Heudorson’s Mai colm, 1; J. Fry’s Local Option 2 ; J. Sad diet's Mechanic, 8.
