TOKOMABU BAY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

At last we havo bad a much neoded rain, but unfortunately the weather has sinee been cold bo that there is little if any growth in the grass. The cricket team from the Coast would arrivo in Napier this morning, and corn menco their first match to-day. The following are the names of tho Coast men that havo gone for the trip : —Messrs Ludbrooko, Beale, J. N. Williams, K. S. Williams, H. Williams, A. B. Williams, J. Murphy, Or. Jackson, L. E. Cotterill, G. Cottcriil, C. E. Nurse, and W. Oates, jun. They play three matches in Napier, and return to Gisborne for the match on Saturday against Gisborne representatives. The nominations for tho two principle ! events at the local races are guite up to expectation. Tho following are the names :—Tokomuru Handicap.—Pistol Grip, Tyndalo, Local Option, Cygnet, Malcolm, Waipare, Notoriety, Kurni, Mechanic. Flying Handicap.—Pistol Grip, Local Option, Tyndalo, Cygnet, Avalanche, Malcolm, Notoriety, Kiuni, Steel Hu3t, Polly Grey, Tutira, Monaki, Mechanic. The poßt entry events are expected to bo still more numerous, and u good day's sport is anticipated. The roads are in splendid order, and numbers of people arc on their way to Tolago Bay for the races to morrow. A record meeting is looked forward to at Tolago. Entries for the Hog Trials close on Saturday the 21st. More than usual interest is being taken in the Trials this year, and work of a much higher standard may be expected. The committee appear to have been most fortunate in getting Mr W. C. Munro, of Wairoa, to undertake the judging. The Coast people are looking forward to a visit again from your Special at this tho most important holiday-time of tho year on the Coast
