lAST COAST WANDERERS V. POVERTY BAY.

A meeting of the Management Committee of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association was held at live o’clock yesterday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs W. J. Barlow (in the chair), A. Crawford, 11. E. Hill, J. V. Macdonald, A. H. Hodge, and W. Gibson, hon. sec. "iThte meeting wa,s) called to make arrangements for the match next Saturday against the East Coast Wanderers, After discussion, it was decided to play the match on Victoria Domain, and to procure a new matting for the pitch. It was decided to make a charge of one shilling for admission, but to admit ladies free, the proceeds to go to improving the Domain, It was arranged to commence play at ten a.m., and to entertain the visiting players at luncheon at the Record Reign Hotel. Mr D. C. Hawkins was appointed umpire, and Messrs A. Crawford, J. V. Macdonald, and W. Gibson a selection committee to choose the local representatives. The Secretary was empowered to arrange for afternoon tea.

Last evening Messrs A. Crawford, Macdonald, and W. Gibson met, and selected the following eleven to represent Poverty Bay against the East Coast representatives on Saturday nextß. W. Barton, A. Crawford, H. Raymond, H. Sharp (County), W. Gibson, -J. Gibson, D. Porter, ~E. F. Ivc-son (United); F. G. Sharp, A. FI. Hodge, and H. Plimmer (West End). Emergencies ; F. Smith (County), W. Andrews (West End), W. A. Hood (County), and Kretschmar (United). A working-bee of players will attend at Victoria Domain this afternoon to put the ground in order for Saturday’s match. As will be seen from a full report appearing in this issue, the East Coast Wanderers easily vanquished the County Club, at Hastings, on Monday last. The Wanderers are a really fine side, and should he in toptop form when they meet Poverty Bay on Saturday next* The match should prove one of the most interesting ever played on a local ground.

EAST COAST WANDERERS V, HAWKE’S BAY COUNTY.

The East Coast team commenced their Hawke’s Bay tour on Monday last with a match against the Hawke’s Bay County Club on the Heretaunga County Club’s ground, at Hastings, The visitors won the toss, and ran up the fine total of 244. J. N. Williams (52), E. Ludbrook (47). G. Cotterill (28), Jackson (19), A. B. Williams (38), and C. E. Nurse (32), batted oxcollently, and proved that the calibre of the Coast batsmen is a long way ahead of averago form. The County Club replied with 173 (Lewis 61, Watt 23, H. Brathwaite 48). W. Oates, tho Tokomaru colt, boro off the bowling honors, and, by capturing five wickets for 50 runs, fully sustained the reputation he has established on the Coast as a really good bowler. Yesterday, the Coast men commenced a match on the Napier Recreation ground againßt tho United Club, and to-day and to morrow they meet the Hawke's Bay representative eleven, finishing up the tour with a match against Poverty Bay here on Saturday next.
