TOKOMAKU BAY,
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Tokomaru Bay, Feb. 24. i This morning we are having a splendid | rain, welcome in many ways, empty tanks and parched pastures being very much in ■ evidence, two or three days’ rain now will , cause a strong growth of grass right ! through tho autumn. Peaches and other fruit arc fairly plentiful, and peaches are now being procured for jam-making. Dipping is practically over on all the stations. Mr W. D. S, Macdonald has sold his dwelling-house and freehold property, about fifteen 'acres, to Messrs Hewitson Bros., and his leasehold to Messrs Wilson Bros., of Waiau. Tennis players hero have been very keenly practising lately. A tournament was played a short time ago, Miss MeGavin and Mr 11. H. Fairlie proving the winners, with Mrs W. D. S. Macdonald and her son Willie second. A beautiful rackot was presented to each of the winners the same ovoning. Another touruamont will bo played shortly. Tho lluwke’s Bay Jockey Club have passed the local programme for races to bo hold on March 21st. Those interested in tho Dog Trials will bo pleased to leurn that Mr W. C. Muuro, of Wairoa, Hawko’s Bay, has accepted the office of judgo for this year's trials. It is arranged to play tho cricket match at tho Mata on tho 28th inst. One of tho oldest identities on tho Coast passed away this morning, in the person of Tamiti Bunga Bunga ; ho was about seventy years of age, and bad been hale and hearty up to about a week ago, a severe cold and other complications bringing about his death. Advantage is being taken of the good roads, and buggies, etc., pass through here daily, the mail coach too is always woll patronised by passengers, and every available spaco filled with parcols, etc. The road work near tho springs being done by Mr McNoil is just about completed. A social and dance, etc., on a large scale is being arranged for the noar future.
TUPAROA

On Thursday, tho l'Jth, a very enjoyable cricket match was played between tho Wuipiro and Tuparoa Cricket Clubs, resulting in a win for the former by 116 runs. The day was a perfect one for cricket, and some brilliant play and big scores resulted therefrom. Tuparoa batted first, and closod their innings for 79. Mr K. S. Williams and E. It. Ludbrook, being the first to bat, exhibited good play, tho formor making 12 and tho latter 29, put together in his usual safe and sure style. P. Wharton 14 played a good game also. In the bowling Messrs Beale and Durrant took tho wickets between thorn. For Waipiro Mr J. W. Williams and A. M. Beale mado 63 respectively, both players showing themselves quite at homo in their batting, and their play was undoubtedly very good. F. A. Ilargreavos 27 was the third highest scoie, and all through ho played a sound game, Waipiro terminating thoir innings for 195. For tho bowlers Messrs Wickstoad, Jackson, and J2. R. Ludbrook did the damage. Tuparoa again wont in, and before very long Mr K, S. Williams and E. R. Ludbrook compiled 80 betwoen them. Owing to scarcity of tiino stumps wore drawn, thus ending a very enjoyable game. Mr K. S. Williams provided a good ground and lunch, and he is to bo congratulated on the interest which he always takes in all things pertaining to sport.
WAIPIRO BAY,

At a recent meeting of the Waipiro Bay Racing Club the following officers wore clocted .-—President, Mr J. F. Pettio ; viceProsidenfcs, Messrs W. Kirkpatrick, T. Boedy, S. Burdett, W. Mcllroy, J. J. Fry, Wi Pokiha, Tuta Ngarimu, Anaru Ngamu; Treasurer, Mr A. P. Durrant; Starter, Mr W. Mcllroy; Judge, Mr S. Burdett; Handicapper, Mr \V. Kirkpatrick ; Clerk of Scales, Mr W. Warren; Clerk of Courso, Mr J. Hickey ; Stewards, Messrs H. Boyco, John Boyce, W. Sadlier, T. Walbank, H. Munn, W. Kirkpatrick, W. Alton, Renata Tarnepo, H. Dines, Peter Holsen; Hon. Secretary, J. Sadlier. It was decidod to hold the annual mooting on Saturday, April 4th. Mombers are sanguine as to the success of the meeting, and are all working hand in hand. A splendid programme has been drawn up, and should attract a large number of entries. The usual annual ball will be held on Friday, April 3rd, when a most successful gathering is anticipated.
