FACTORIES ACT.

EXPENSIVE RUNNING OF A LAUNDRY.

(Per Press Association.) Invercargill, last night. To-day fines and costs totalling £23 3s were imposed on F. J. Hatch, who runs a laundry, for (1) failing to keep a record of wages paid ; (2) failing to keep the record required by section 16 sub-Bection 1 of the Factories Act; (3) employing women and failing to pay them fortnightly ; (4) failing to allow four employees a half-holiday on 27th December. From the evidence it appeared that defendant allowed the factory to run itself. He has been before the Court previously, and attention had been directed to the provisions of the Act; otherwise the Inspector said that he would have asked for light fines.
