BARQUE RUMS ON REEF

FLOATED OFF BUT AFTERWARDS CONDEMNED. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night, The Norweigan barque La Plata, from Rotumah to Levuka, laden with copra, struck on Horseshoe reef, but was got oil in about nine hours. The vessel was leaking badly, but reached Levuka safely with three feet of water in the hold. The cargo was discharged, some of it being damaged, and an examination of the vossel showed that the keel from tho mainmast aft was torn away and a lot of the copper damaged, and as there was no means of repairing the vessel at Lovuka, she was condemned as unseaworthy.
