GOOD DEMAND FOR SHEER.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. At tho Addington market to-day there wero good entries and an averugo attendance.
Fat cattle : 2C5 wero yarded ; nearly all of good to prime quality,, anil a few extra heavy bullocks. Competition was easier all round, and a drop uf from 3s to 4s per 1001 b has to he recorded, best beef making to 31s, other sorts to 28s per 100 lb. Steers sold from £8 10s to £l3 12s 61, heifers £6 10s to £lO 12s, 60 cows £5 12s 6d to £lO 15s each.
Store cattle : A guod demand existed for all classes, and clearance was effected at the following rates : Yearlings 27s to 36s 6d, 15 to 18 months £2 8s to £3 9s 6d, 2-year-old steers £4 18s 6d to £5 12s 6d, ditto heifers £4 10s, to 3-year-old steers £6 10s, 3 year-oid heifers £5 17s 6d, dry cows £1 15s to £4 10s. Of dairy cows there were a medium entry, and they sold at £4 5s to £8 10s, and up to £lO.
Fat sheep : There was a large entry, the greater portion being fat crossbred ewc-s with fair yarding of good to prime freezing wethers, but many pens would be more in place in the store pens. A good demand existed for all prime freezers both wethers and ewes, but butchers’ eives are easier except for the best, which had a hard tone. Prime freezing wethers shorn made from 18s 7d to 20s 6d, few extra heavy wethers selling at 24s Od to 295, lighter weights 10s Gd to 17s 9d, mixed sexes 16s 7d to 19s Gd, freezing quality ewes best kinds 16s Id to 18s 4d, others 14s to 15s Od, butchers' ewes best 13s to 17s Bd, extra heavy to 19s 3d, inferior 9s to 11s 6d.
Fat lambs: There were 1701 penned. There was a keen demand, and prices generally were a shade firmer. Prime freezers sold from 10s to 16s Gd ; lighter, 13a Id to 14s 6d ; butchers’ best, los to lGs lOd ; others, 11s 9d to 11s 6d.
Store sheep: 0300 were yarded, and there was a strong demand, Wethers sold from 12s 8d to 14s lOd ; hoggets, shorn, 12s 9d to 13s ; woolly ditto, 10s 2d; crossbred ewes and lambs, 9s to 125.,
Pigs: There was a fair enquiry, with keen demand for porkers and stores, baconers making 10s to 04s, or about l{d to 4jd per lb, and porkers oUs to 40s, fully •5d to Od per lb ; large stores, 20s to 80s ; wsanc-rs, 15s O to 19s; suckers, 10s to 14s Gd.
