THE ASHBURTON PETITION.
TO UPSET PROHIBITION VOTE.
By Telegraph—Trees Association. Ashburton, last night. A petition signed by 60 electors was lodged to-day with the otijeei of up3otting the result cf the local option poll by which no-license was declared carried. The enquiry was fixed for the 10th. The following is a summary of the grounds set out in the petition : Improper notice given of tho time of poll and plaoo of polling booths ; hours not kept according to law ; voting papers not given out simultaneously ; failure to show stamps on voting papers ; conversing in polling booths ; more than six voters in booths at one time ; deputy returning offioors absenting thomsolves from booths without oppoiuting substitutes ; electors not allowed to vote, although names on roll ; poll improperly held, tnere being no valid roll.
