This afternoon the Chief Justico and a jury of twelve cominoncod tho hearing of an action in which William James Donnet sought to roeover tho sum of £5Ol damages from William Thomson for alloged slandor. Defendant is minister of Scotß Church, Wellington, an indopendont organisation. Ho was formerly a minister in tho Presbyterian Church. Defendant is a buildor, and was ouo time superintendent in the Sunday-school connected with defondant’s church. It was stated that tbo plaintiff became ongagod to a femalo toacher in tho Sunday school in August. Defendant was alleged to havo sought to break off tho engagement, and rnado a statement that tho plaintiff had indecently assaulted a little girl. Tho defonco was a denial that the words wero spokon, and that if they wero used they had beon uttored by tho defondant in honost boliof and truth. Tho caso stood partly heard when tho court rose.
