ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY.

By Tolegraph—Press Association. Christchuroh, last night. Sorno discussion took placo at tho annual meeting of tho Royal Humatio Society of Now Zealand in regard to tho fact that of tho total subscriptions received, amounting to £79 14s, £74 was supplied by Canterbury. Comment was passed on the small contributions from other districts, Hawke’s Bay giving £2 lie, Westland £2, and Auckland £l, whilo Wellington, Otago, Taranaki, and Marlborough gave nothing. It was state; 'A that there was jealousy about Christ" church being tho headquarters of tho Society. It was decided to hold an entertainment as a means of bringing tho Society more prominently before tho public. AVON ELECTION.

A recount of tho Avon votes, held today, showed tho figures to bo (—Tanner, 1680; Brunt, 1632; Loughrcy, 871; Myers 37. ALLEGED FORGERY.

At tho Magistrate’s Court to-day, Richard Post was committed for trial on a charge of forging and uttering false documents whereby the Trotting Association was defrauded. Tho case for the

prosecution was that tho charges aroso out of the North Canterbury Trotting Club’s meeting on October loth, 1901, at P.angiora, at which meeting Post entered a horse under the name of Fancy Free. He had really no horse of bis own at the time, and bo entered the horso in the name of John Rennie, Wolston. The horse that did actually run was one known as Major Robin, and to enable it to run accused was alleged to havo forged a false registration document, and when it did run and won he forged a receipt for the Btake.

TRADE WITH SOUTH AFRICA.

At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce to-day tho following motion was carried unanimously : “ That the attention of the Department of Industries and Commerce bo called to the conditions of the New Zealand and South African Company's bill of lading, as it was most unfair to both shippers and consignees, and that steps be taken to obtain from the compan J the usual steamer bill of lading in U 56 with Great Britain ; and that the Department be informed of the delay that occurred in delivery of produce by tbe Sussex in South Africa.”
